Words beginning with "Y"

Yankee.

Yankee is my favorite word because I am one. I currently live in the south, but it will never be my home. I grew up in Pennsylvania and every time I here the word yankee I am reminded of colorful fall leaves on beautiful hardwood trees. I even miss the quick pattern of speech that made almost every word uttered above the Mason-Dixon line my favorite. Don't tell anyone around here though, because I don't think anyone told these rebs the Civil War has ended, much less that they lost.

Yclept.

It is my favorite word because of the unusual letter combinations that are not seen in other words. It also leads to pronouncing two double consonants when you speak the word; cl and pt. Yclept means named as in "I have a dog yclept Rover."

Tony

Yes.

Yes has to be my favorite word. Well, itís the one I like to hear the most of all when I ask or question, and where possible I like to use it too.

It has the versatility to show agreement, pleasure, relief and acknowledgement. It is a sprightly word off the tongue and it can be elongated in a slow reply when one is not sure of what is coming next in the conversation or is agreeable in the text but not sure of agreement to the proposition.

YMMV

It's on the window sticker of every new car sold in the USA.  It stands for "Your Mileage May Vary," but what it means is "Don't believe what we just told you," and should be applied to almost ever product that makes claims in its advertising.
