Gobo

I learned this word in college when I was a theater major. A gobo is a stencil for light used to create patterns. I first encountered it when a director decided to create the illusion of moonlight through trees using a gobo. I immediately thought “cool word,” followed by “what a great name for a band.”

Gula

Well, it’s my last name and I always thought it did not have much meaning. But alas, thanks to the wonders of the internet it has many meanings! 1. the upper part of the throat or gullet. (latin) 2. a molding having a large hollow. 3. gluttony or overeating 4. an ancient Babylonian Goddess of healing.
Sago Gula Melaka is a very popular soft dessert in Malaysia. Gula Gula is restaurant in Madrid.
Mula Gula was a famous racehorse. Never thought much of my name but now I love it for its various and such diverse meanings! Plus, it’s cool when people call me by my last name and I say – ‘yeah but do you know what it means?’

Gargantuan

It just seems like the word itself is a huge being. I like to see paintings that use gargantuan figures, and I love how it just flows, then kind of breaks up with the “T”.

Gawky

I was trying to prove to my friend that “Geekiness” was not a real word. I searched it on wiki and it asked me if I meant “Gawkiness”. I then and there I had a new favorite word, seeing that it sounds like something a 6 year old boy would make up as an alien language.

Gnarly

It’s that G at the beginning. The sound of the word fits its meaning somehow, but that G enables it to conjure up images of mis-shapen trees and terribly old men, so well that I find it oddly funny. Hope it’s not just me!

Glorious

I love this word because it’s perfect for describing something heavenly or beautiful, down to what you feel when you experience that heavenly or beautiful thing/event.

For instance, my favorite singer has this voice that you can’t help but notice. In my opinion, his voice comes the closest to what I think an angel’s voice might sound like, and sets my soul on fire…a glorious feeling that lasts for days.

It means to watch someone while they eat hoping they will ask you to join them in their meal. It’s always fun pointing out groakers.

Gymnopedies

The Gymnopedies are the three piano pieces that the French composer Erik Satie wrote in 1888. Four syllable words with the accent on the second syllable (like monopoly) make me smile.

A combination of eloquence and grandiose. This should be self-explanatory.
