    My 6th grade teacher Mr. Burns amazed our class several times with a chemistry experiment: he filled a narrow beaker with a few ounces of table sugar, then poured a few ounces of sulfuric acid into it. This “burns” the sugar, turning it into a porous carbony mess, which rises out of the beaker. We termed it a “bogusoid.”
