I love this word, if not for the strange looks I get when I choose to use this word rather than an assortment of smaller words or for the precision of its meaning, because of how often it applies to my own speech.

Because it doesn’t sound like what it means, so no one knows what it means.

And because people who know what ‘nonplussed’ means often look nonplussed when someone else uses ‘nonplussed’ correctly.
