Perpendicular

Just say it out loud. If you didn’t know the meaning of the word, what would you THINK the word meant? It certainly doesn’t sound like two lines that intersect at 90 degrees. To me, it sounds like it should mean something like “exuberant.” Hey, that’s another great word!

Babushka

It always sounded like you were a Soviet Spy when you said the word.

Protocol

Love the scientific, businesslike, orderly images this word conjures. Other than that, not really sure why I like this word. Probably for the sound, too. It does sound like its definition, if that makes any sense. (Probably not!)

Austere

I seriously love the way this word sounds. I am in love with the way “austere” flows after that hard “st” sound. I don’t know why… It seems to have a negative definition, too – cold, emotionally distant, etc.

Put simply, it’s a beautiful word for meaning something so negative.

Mellifluous

Because it evokes in me a feeling of peace, tranquillity. ‘Flowy-ness’. Love. Brooks splashing over pebbles. Violins and bows. Roses. Flutes. Crescendo, diminuendo. Rise and fall; gently, gently. Ebony and ivory keys of a grand piano. Candlelight. Mystical. Dreamy and romantic. Chiffon and lace and georgette and silk and satin. Because it’s melliflulous.

Magnificent

It is to say what it describes when saying it. It’s big. Bold. Exposed in the bright sunlight and unlike so many of us, it comes from a functional family.

Nonchalant

Nonchalant is an AMAZING word!It means to just take it easy and be indifferent. But, that is not the reason its so great. It’s its sound. Just say it to yourself, nonchalant. The “ch” Sounds like a “sh”. It sounds so elegant!

Vermillion

The way it rolls off the tongue. It sounds elegant and feminine. Also, it’s a city in the Kanto region in the Pokemon games. Lt. Surge is the best gym leader.
