It’s rather flamboyant sounding, and conjures up images of a rather foppish flute player with lace cuffs and white stockings. And a curly wig. It’s also quite beautiful.

I am really enjoying reading all these “favorite words” and I don’t mean to dampen this poster’s enthusiasm for the word “flautist”, which they consider quite beautiful, but my first thought upon seeing it was of someone making sounds that are common to a lavatory than a concert hall. As in, “Poor Jack, with his intestinal problems he was sounding like a first class flautist in the bathroom this morning!”. No offense!
