Tempestuous

It’s onomatopoeic without trying to be.

No, it isn’t. Onomatopoeia is a word that characterizes the sounds it describes. Never heard an emotion sound anything like “tempestuous.”

Perhaps the guy’s a synaesthetic. Besides, say the word slowly with an emphasis on the final ‘s’ – the hissing does remind that of a wind rising, carrying with itself fallen leaves… in the distance you can see the storm clouds gathering, the wind is getting stroger now and the first raindrops dab the face of your soul as you feel an oncoming tempest of emotions.

A bit far fetched, but than again, I’m somewhat synaesthetic myself :D

  • i think bob is right!
