Because of the sheer irony that it is the fear of long words, that it is 27 letters long, and it is pleasing in the shape of your mouth at the time it comes out, as it is no way uncomfortable (I had to think of a substitute for rolls off your tongue).

I like the fact that “sesquippedaliophobia” is sufficient to describe the fear of long words and the hippomonstro additive just makes the condition a bit more poignant… (in fact, the word is even a tiny bit worse in the Netherlands: we tend to say ‘hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia’…)

It took me about a minute looking at this word before I felt comfortable even trying to say it. Very ironic indeed!

I’ve seen this word on some of the ads they play on the NTN/Buzztime trivia that a lot of bars have.
