Fun to say, it sounds like it means (confused), and people always look discombobulated the first time they hear it. Janeen Colloquial is my favorite word at the moment specifically because it is an example of what it isn’t. Kinda the opposite of how the word polysyllabic has many syllables… Well colloquial is not a word used in informal simple conversation. William-Alexander James Madison University This word has recently become a favorite of mine. It’s a bit confusing to pronounce at first and the meaning is impossible to guess. You might not even be sure how to make it plural. It’s the rumbling your insides make as gas passes through your digestive system. Who knew it had its own [...] When I hear the word, I just imagine bolts of lightning striking the sky. It is such an energetic word that is totally filled with life. And then, in a flash, it’s all gone. Amy Kansas City It can mean different things: sluggishness, lack of spirit, or tenderness. I like the contrast between the more negative meanings and the softer one. I like the way it sounds and how it feels to say it. When I hear it I imagine a woman in a light dress draped over a porch swing [...] I find it amazing that a word used to mean “constantly likely to change” should be a word that has transcended the ages and never changed itself.
