It means to lead. Its Latin. It is the root of the word educate, meaning to lead from. It is a great word to practise your clarity of diction. It belongs in this list. I didn’t really enjoy Latin at school. But I remember this word.

actually plumbum is the latin word for lead.
which is another fin word itself.
plumbum means lead, as in “lead pipes.”
plumbum is the latin word for the material, or, as we understand it today, element: lead. This is why lead is “Pb” on the table of elements. plumbum is the word with which we derive plumbing as well as a plumb line. Plumbing originates from the word plumbum because plumbing was originally made from easily flexible metals which most often contained traces of lead. Plumb lines are so apply named due to the fact most plumb bobs were originally made of lead. “Ducere” does, in fact, mean “to lead”.
A scholar once told me that ‘educate’ was not from ‘ducere’ but from ‘ducare’. He said that “leading out from’ is attractive but false etymology, and that the root is rather ‘edere’, to eat. I don’t have access to reference material, and I wonder if latinists here might have opinions about this.
