Episcopalian

How can you not love Episcopalian? The ppp-ps . . . the crisp c . . . the hiss of the s . . . the piquancy of the a. It is simply a swell word.

I AM an Episcopalian, so, yes, I’m quite fond of it, too. It means, “having to do with bishops,” (from the Greek, “episkopoi,” overseers); capitalized, it’s part of the proper name of any of several churches in the Worldwide Anglican Communion.

These churches, all of which arose from the Church of England, are in communion with the Archbishop of Canterbury, and are not in communion with either the Roman church or the Eastern or Oriental orthodox churches, yet have bishops in historical succession to the Apostles.
